Kapha Recipes for Weight-loss

Ayurveda, or ‘life knowledge’ is the wisdom to find balance, for each person’s internal environment (the body and mind) to work harmoniously with their external environment (the world that is in your surroundings).

Out of the four seasons spring is associated with Kapha. The dosha is made up of Earth and Water. The earth element is what is needed for us to build bulk and muscle. The water element in kapha leads to lubrication of the joints as well as salivary excretions.

Kapha is also responsible for stability and for holding emotions. The gunas (qualities) of Kapha are cold (shita), heavy (guru), slow (manda), oily (snigdha), liquid (drava), slimy (shlakshna), dense (sandra), soft (mrudu), static (sthira), cloudy (avila), and gross (sthula).

When Kapha is in excess, that leads to weight gain, obesity, diabetes, drowsiness, swelling, possessiveness, and excessive sleeping.

Excess anabolic abnormalities in the tissues are often said to be excess as Kapha disorders. That is when Catabolic therapy – known as langhana – lightens the body tissues. This is useful in disorders like obesity, congestion, growths, lipomas, fatty liver, high cholesterol, and general heaviness in the body.

Proper Diet and lifestyle, is useful along with lightening herbs that will bring balance back to the body.
