  • 1 litre grape juice (unsweetened or natural)
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 tsp black pepper (whole or cracked)
  • 6 cloves
  • 2 tbsp fresh ginger (grated or thinly sliced)
  • 1 lemon, thinly sliced
  • 1 orange, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 handful grapes (optional, for garnish or added flavour)
  • 2 tbsp date syrup (or to taste)

1. Prepare the Base: In a large saucepan, combine the grape juice and water. Place over medium heat and stir gently.

2. Add Spices and Citrus: Add the cinnamon stick, black pepper, cloves, and ginger to the saucepan. Stir to combine.

3. Infuse the Flavors: Add the lemon and orange slices to the juice mixture. Bring everything to a gentle simmer. Avoid boiling to preserve the delicate flavours.

4. Sweeten It: Stir in the date syrup and adjust sweetness to your taste.

5. Simmer and Strain: Simmer the mixture on low heat for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Once the flavours are infused, strain the liquid to remove the spices and citrus slices if desired.

6. Garnish and Serve: Pour the mulled grape juice into mugs or glasses. Garnish with a few fresh grapes or a slice of orange for presentation.
