Unbaked Oaty Energy Balls

Unbaked Oaty Energy Balls

This recipe is one of those simple little treasures that brings joy to the whole family. I love making a batch in the afternoon — the kind of snack that feels like a treat but is still deeply nourishing. They only take about ten minutes to mix and ten minutes to roll, which makes them the perfect go-to when you want something wholesome without fuss.

A few tips I’ve learned along the way: keep your nut butter and coconut oil at room temperature — it makes the rolling smooth and easy (and keeps sticky fingers to a minimum if little hands are helping you in the kitchen!).

From an Ayurvedic perspective, these energy balls are a beautiful example of food as medicine. Using uncooked oats keeps them more alkalizing, light, and easy to digest compared to cooked oats. The orange peel adds a burst of flavour while gently supporting fat metabolism. And the sweetness comes from honey — the ideal sweetener for Kapha types, as it’s both satisfying and balancing.

So whether you’re packing them into a lunchbox, enjoying them with your afternoon tea, or sharing them after yoga, these little balls are grounding, energising, and just the right amount of sweet.

COURSE

Snack

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 cup oats

  • 1/4 cup nut butter of choice - hazelnut, cashew or sunflower seed

  • 1/4 cup cocoa butter

  • 1/2 cup dried apricots, soaked

  • 1 tsp cinnamon

  • 1 tsp chia seeds

  • 1 orange zest

  • 2 tbsp honey

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Lightly toast the oats in a cast-iron pan for two minutes. As you toast them, toss them around, as this will help them become more digestible.

2. In a bowl, place the rest of the ingredients, and mix them with a fork until they form a dough.

3. Use a spoonful of the dough and with your hands shape it into a ball. Put them in the fridge for 20 minutes to chill if you prefer. Enjoy them with your favourite cardamom chai tea or synergy latte.
