1. Boil the water and place the threads of saffron in a cup on the side. Pour over a tablespoon of hot water on the saffron threads for a few minutes.
2. Meanwhile, wash the basmati rice in running water until clean.
3. Place the ghee in a lidded heavy-bottomed pan and melt. Add in the cumin seeds first and then the rice. Followed by 2 cups of boiling water and cook on high heat until boiling. Turn down to a gentle flame and add salt and raisins in before placing the lid on.
4. Once the water is absorbed turn off the heat and allow further 10 minutes of steaming with the lid shut before fluffing up the rice with a fork.
